What Cadence has been doing in FL

I know there's been several posts in a row that have nothing to do with Cadence. That is because she is in FL with my (Ashleigh) family for 2 weeks. The first week was last week when Chris and I had Summer Music Camp and Rock School and we knew that that week wouldn't be much fun for her. Then this week, Chris and I are going on vacation together to DC just to have some time away and alone. But have no fear, Cadence is having way more fun in FL than she would be having here in NC either way as you can see in the pictures.

What to do without Shae around Part 3

This week, along with Summer Music Camp, we also had Rock School. Rock School is for the older kids we teach and is a chance for them to play together as a band instead of just taking individual lessons. It's a lot harder to play with a band than you would think and so the week turns out to be pretty challenging for the kids. This year was so much fun. We had a great group of kids at all different skill levels. We spend 4 days practicing and then..........the performance :)

Our set list for this year was Next Year - the Foo Fighters;  FreeBird - Lynrd Skynrd; Surfin USA - The Beach Boys; and School's Out - Alice Cooper. We also attempted Hey Jude by the Beatles but it was a band decision to cut it from the performance.

Below are some pictures of everyone during rehearsal the first few days.

This is the actual performance.......and yes we were a garage band

Here they all are Rock School 2008 and the crowd that gathered to watch the performance.

What to do without Shae around Part 2

We don't teach normal private lessons thru the summer for MusicTime so instead, we offer camps for the kids to participate in. This year, having Cadence, made the planning more tricky  so we decided to just do them all in one week out of the month and for that week, send Cadence to Grammie's house. So, while she's having all kinds of fun in FL, we're having Summer Music Camp and Rock School (which is a different post)  Here are the kids from Summer Music Camp. It was really lots of fun.  We spent each day talking about a different instrument group and one day talking about the orchestra. My friend Renee, helped me out with the camp. She did such a great job coming up with this really cool craft book the kids worked in all week. I'm so grateful for her and her help to me not only with Music Camp but as a friend to me and a baby-sitter for Cadence (who loves her na-na)

What we do without Shae around Part 1

We've wanted to have the backyard fenced for awhile because Cadence likes to "explore"  Thankfully 2 of our neighbors had their yards fenced already so we only have to connect from their fences to our house to block her in. So, this week, we went to Lowes, bought the stuff, Chris fixed his circular saw (because he's so cool he can do that kind of stuff) and we put up a fence. This is the short side of it and I don't have pictures of the long side but he even built a gate for the other side. He's very impressive!  So, we'll see how long it takes for Cadence to figure out how to get around a fence but for now, Slang can't get out and it's taller than her so we're set.
