After the other 2 boys had their chance at hospital visits, I guess Caleb didn't want to feel left out. So, literally the Tuesday after we had been at the ER with Creed on Saturday, Caleb - pitching a fit - came and leaned against my legs and I heard "pop" sound. His cry immediately changed and we knew where we were headed. We knew it was something with his collar bone because it immediately had a hump in it (gross). So, off Chris and Caleb went. We were so blessed in that we got the same nurse that we had had with Creed. She recognized our last name and took them into a room without them having to wait at all. An orange popsicle and an apple juice and Caleb was feeling much better. They x-rayed his collar bone and found no break in it so Caleb got sent home.
After being up all night long with him crying and running a fever, we were at the chiropractor first thing Wednesday morning. He couldn't do much but did tell us that he thought maybe Caleb had a "green stick fracture" which basically means the bone bends but doesn't technically break. We thought "of course his bone bent" :) So we headed to the pediatrician to see what his 103 fever was all about.
They sent us back to the hospital for bloodwork and urine sample and another x-ray - this time his lungs to see if he had pneumonia. Although there were a couple of places that seemed strange on his lungs nothing was conclusive. His blood work showed a bacterial infection and so 2 shots and a 10 day antibiotic began to send him on the right path. Because of all this he missed his Spring Sing (see earlier post) and Chris and I missed part of our family ministry conference. Ya know, just another day in the life of the Andersens.....
